Siouxland District Health's Agency Description
Siouxland District Health is dedicated by its mission to
the promotion of healthy living through health education and health
promotion.
Organized in 1916, the Woodbury County Health Department was responsible
for improving health services and providing community education
throughout Woodbury County. The County and City Boards of Health voted
to dissolve their individual boards in 1978 and created Iowa’s only
district health board and health department. Thus, Siouxland District
Health was established under the authority of
Chapter 137 of the Code of Iowa.
Siouxland District Health continues to evolve to address
the needs of the community. Services include public health nursing,
laboratory and environmental services in Woodbury County with expanded
environmental programs in ten northwest Iowa counties.
Siouxland District Health has a history of health
promotion and health educational activities within our community that
includes water testing, communicable disease investigation, nutritional
services for women, infants, and children (WIC), restaurant inspections,
HIV testing and counseling, childhood immunizations, childhood lead
