Special Canvas Meeting September 16, 2011

SEPTEMBER 16, 2011-SPECIAL MEETING OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors met on Friday, September 16, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.  Board members present were Tripp, Monson, and Clausen.  Staff members present were Patrick F. Gill, Auditor/Clerk to the Board and Steve Hofmeyer, Deputy Commissioner of Elections.

The meeting was called to order to canvass the Annual School Board Election held in Woodbury County on September 13, 2011.

Steve Hofmeyer, Deputy Commissioner of Elections, announced there was eight (8) provisional ballot which seven (7) were accepted and added to the tally.  Official Canvass results were as follows:

For the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member Director District 2,
1 vacancy, there were sixty-two (62) ballots cast as follows:

Patrick Pierce           received sixty-one (61) votes 
Scattering  one(1) vote
Total  sixty-two (62) votes
We therefore declare Patrick Pierce duly elected to the office of Anthon-Oto School Board Director-District 2 for the term of 4 year.

For the office of Anthon-Oto Community School District Board Member Director District 3,
1 vacancy, there were fifty-nine (59) ballots cast as follows:

Robert Clausen  received fifty-nine (59) votes
Scattering Zero (0) votes
Total  fifty-nine (59) votes
We therefore declare Robert Clausen duly elected to the office of Anthon-Oto School Board Director-District 3 for the term of 4 years.

For the public measure:

In the Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School District, the following revenue purpose statement, which specifies the use of the sales, services and use tax funds from the secure an advanced vision for education fund for school infrastructure (penny sales, services and use tax for schools) shall be adopted:           

The money received by the Maple Valley-Anthon Oto Community School District from the penny sales, services and use tax for schools beginning in FY 2012-13 and thereafter (as well as such funds currently then on hand) shall be used until this revenue purpose statement is amended or replaced for school infrastructure purposes and needs of the school district and/or property tax relief as now or hereafter authorized by the Code of Iowa.  Such school infrastructure purposes include but are not necessarily limited to the construction, reconstruction, repair, purchasing, or remodeling of schoolhouses, stadiums, gyms, field houses and bus garages and the procurement of schoolhouse construction sites, the making of site improvements, demolition work and for equipment, transportation equipment, and public recreation or other activities for which revenues under Iowa Code sections 298.3 or 300.2 may be spent, i.e. the physical plant and equipment tax levy and the public educational and recreational tax levy.  Additionally, school infrastructure includes the payment or retirement of outstanding bonds previously issued for school infrastructure purposes and the payment or retirement of bonds issued for school infrastructure purposes under section 423E.5 and 423F.4, Code of Iowa. If the change is not approved, this shall not be construed to terminate or restrict previous authority granted by the voters to expend receipts from the secure an advanced vision for education fund.

For  the question , there were                    fifty-five(55) votes
Against the question , there were              ten (10) votes
Total                                                          sixty-five (65) votes

We therefore declare the public measure to be adopted. 

For the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School District Board Member-Director District 1, 1 vacancy, there were three hundred six (306) ballots cast as follows:

Shelley Junck  received three hundred two (302) votes
Scattering four (4) votes
Total  three hundred six (306) votes
We therefore declare Shelley Junck duly elected to the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director-District 1 for the term of 4 years.

For the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School District Board Member-Director District 2, 1 vacancy, there were three hundred seventeen (317) ballots cast as follows:

Douglas Furlich  received seventy-one (71) votes
Molly Holtz, write-in received two hundred forty-four (244) votes
Randy Horsley, write-in received one (1) vote
Niki Jeremberg, write-in received one (1) vote
Scattering zero (0) votes
Total three hundred seventeen (317) votes
We therefore declare Molly Holtz duly elected to the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 2 for the term of 4 years.

For the office of Lawton-Bronson Community School District Board Member-Director District 4, 1 vacancy, there were three hundred (300) ballots cast as follows:

Amy Denney  received two hundred ninety-eight (298) votes
Scattering two (2) votes
Total three hundred (300) votes
We therefore declare Amy Denney duly elected to the office of Lawton-Bronson School Board Director District 4 for the term of 4 years.

For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member Director 2, 1 vacancy, there were one hundred thirteen (113) ballots cast as follows:

Kirk Utesch received one hundred twelve (112) votes
Scattering one (1) votes
Total  one hundred thirteen (113) votes
We therefore declare Kirk Utesch duly elected to the office of River Valley School Board Director 2 for the term of 4 years.

For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member Director District 3, 1 vacancy, there were one hundred nine (109) ballots cast as follows:

Scott Knaack received one hundred seven (107) votes
Scattering two (2) votes
Total one hundred nine (109) votes
We therefore declare Scott Knaack duly elected to the office of River Valley School Board Director District 3 for the term of 4 year.

For the office of River Valley Community School District Board Member Director, 1 vacancy at-large, there were one hundred thirteen (113) ballots cast as follows:

Gaylenn Goettsch received one hundred eleven (111) votes
Scattering two (2) votes
Total one hundred thirteen (113) votes
We therefore declare Gaylen Goettsch duly elected to the office of River Valley School Board Director  at-large for the term of 4 years.

For the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton Community School District Board Member, 3 vacancies at-large, there were one thousand two hundred fourteen (1214) ballots cast as follows:

John Baker  received three hundred fifty-four (354) votes
Amiee Krogh received three hundred fifteen (315) votes
Mike Laughlin received two hundred fifty-two (252) votes
Dean Williams received two hundred seventy-seven (277)votes
Scattering sixteen (16) votes
Total one thousand two hundred fourteen (1214) votes
We therefore declare John Baker, Amiee Kroch, and Dean Williams duly elected to the office of Sergeant Bluff-Luton School District Board for the term of 4 years.

For the office of Sioux City Community School District Board Member, 4 vacancies at-large, there were twelve thousand four hundred nineteen (12419) ballots cast as follows:

Robert Cannon received seven hundred seventy-four (774) votes
Walt Johnson received two thousand five (2005) votes
Mike Krysl received two thousand four hundred thirty-three (2433) votes
Michael McTaggart received two thousand seven hundred eighty-three (2783) votes
John Meyers received one thousand nine hundred sixty (1960) votes
Jackie Warnstadt received two thousand four hundred eighteen (2418) votes
Scattering forty-six (46) votes
Total twelve thousand four hundred nineteen (12419) votes
We therefore declare Walt Johnson, Mike Krysl, Michael McTaggart, and Jackie Warnstadt duly elected to the office of Sioux City School Board Director for the term of 4 years.

For the office of Westwood Community School District Board Member, 3 vacancies at-large, there were four hundred fifty-nine (459) ballots cast as follows:

Rob Copple  received one hundred twenty-one (121) votes
Roxie Ullrich received one hundred forty-four (144) votes
Barbara Cathy Wilt  received one hundred fifty-nine (159) votes
Scattering thirty-five (35) votes
Total four hundred fifty-nine (459) votes
We therefore declare Rob Copple, Roxie Ullrich, and Barbara Cathy Wilt duly elected to the office of Westwood School Board Director for the term of 4 years.

For the office of Woodbury Central Community School District Board Member, 4 vacancies at-large, there were three hundred four (304) ballots cast as follows:

Marc Boothby  received seventy-eight (78) votes
Gary Frafjord received seventy-two (72) votes
Scott Lamp received seventy-six (76) votes
Eric Nelson received sixty-seven (67) votes
Scattering eleven (11) votes
Total three hundred four (304) votes
We therefore declare Marc Boothby, Gary Frafjord, Scott Lamp, and Eric Nelson duly elected to the office of Woodbury Central School Board Director for the term of 4 years.

Motion by Tripp second Clausen by to approve and accept the Official Canvass results.  Carried 3-0.  Copy filed.

The Board adjourned the meeting.
