| County Reports Record Earnings On Investments |
back |
Bob Knowler, Woodbury County Treasurer reports that Woodbury County
posted record earnings on investments for the fiscal year just ended.
The return on investments totaled one million, one hundred twenty seven
thousand, seven hundred forty four dollars and forty eight cents.
($1,127,744.48), the highest in the history of the county. This is in
spite of a smaller reserve fund and lower interest rates.
As a result of the return, the property tax askings for the following
year are reduced by that amount, giving a million dollar plus tax relief
to all Woodbury County property owners.
Knowler credits the success of the investment program to Woodbury
County’s banks, who have all been supportive of his investment policy.
All county monies are invested in or through Woodbury County banks, and
all are fully covered against loss. “The county’s main bank has also
been very innovative in helping to create additional returns through
safe, liquid, high yield alternatives”, stated Knowler.
Knowler’s investment policy and all investments must meet the
specifications outlined by the Code of Iowa and the Treasurer of the
State of Iowa.
