Congratulations to the 2014 Reserve Unit graduating class.  Great group of individuals that have put a lot of time and hardwork into getting to this point.  Sheriff Drew, his administration and staff, are proud and thankful for the effort these volunteers have put forth to help the Woodbury County community.

DEPUTY KEVIN WEST RETIRES AFTER 26+ YEARS OF SERVICE

Kevin Sheriff

Kevin Marilyn

Deputy Kevin West, a 26 year veteran of the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, has retired.  Kevin started his career with Woodbury County in 1987 as a correctional officer after returning to Sioux City from the Cincinnati, Ohio area where he worked in the juvenile court system.  In 1993, Kevin was hired as a deputy sheriff where he worked patrol on the afternoon shift until 1997.  Because of his easy going, approachable personality, Kevin was transferred to the Crime Prevention Unit and was instrumental in starting Woodbury County's Community Policing Program funded through the newly formed federal COPS grant.  Kevin later took on the duties with the Cops in Schools program and trained as an elementary and middle school DARE instructor.  Kevin taught DARE for 13 years in the county schools and Sioux City.  Kevin positively affected a large number of young lives over the years.  For years, Kevin was the face of the sheriff's office with the children in Woodbury County.  You could not go anywhere in uniform and not have a child ask you about Kevin.  He will be missed and it will be difficult to fill those shoes.

Pictured above is Deputy West receiving his retirement plaque from Sheriff Dave Drew and the picture below is Kevin with his wife Marilyn.  God Bless you Kevin and Marilyn and enjoy retirement.

It's fair time in Woodbury County!  Come and visit with members of the Sheriff's Office, see some of our equipment, and support your local county fair.  It's a great place for a family to spend good, quality time together.  The weather is suppose to be great!  The fair kicks off Wednesday and runs through Sunday the 3rd.  Help make this a record attendance year for the Woodbury County Fair.  God Bless everyone.
